Former UFC Champion Khabib Nurmagomedov Signs Contract for FC Legion Dynamo

It is noted that Nurmagomedov had publicized his retirement from MMA in January in his Twitter account and he is preparing for his football debut. His final fight in MMA resulted in a submission victory over Justin Gaethje. He also mentioned in his tweet that he was a free agent and he was ready to accept offers.

It turned out that Nurmagomedov wasn’t kidding when he was seen in FC Legion Dynamo’s Instagram account, the former UFC champion Nurmagomedov was seen shaking hands on the soccer team’s president Shamil Lakhiyalov.

Apart from the contract signing, the FC Legion Dynamo has been quiet about their association with Nurmagomedov. No other details, such as the terms of the contract and the position that he will be playing, were released.

Khabib Nurmagomedov is known as “The Eagle” and he ended his MMA career with a 29-0 record. Nurmagomedov also drew the media’s attention after a unanimous decision to win over Al Iaquinta in April 2018. After his win after Iaquinta, he successfully finished all of the bouts via submission against Justin Gaethje, Dustin Poirier, and Conor McGregor.

Meanwhile, FC Legion Dynamo started as an amateur club in 2015 before moving to the Russian third tier in 2016. Nurmagomedov is not the only superstar athlete to transition to another sport. Olympic gold medalist Usain Bolt played for the Central Coast Mariners for 2 months, and NFL Chad Johnson also participated in a four-day trial with MLS side Sporting Kansas City in 2011.
