He has been playing professional football since 1986 and even when he is nearing 40, Paolo Maldini is still going strong. The AC Milandefender who has won nearly every honour there is in football might have been shaved off the pace but his class, experience and desire were enough for him to declare that he might play for the Rosoneri for one more season after the end of the current year.
Yet Maldini’s wish might not come to fruition. In the last three or so years, the former Italian international, who has spent his entire life with one club (Milan) and one woman, has been plagued by a plethora of injuries and now it appears that the Injury Demon might just have ended his playing career.
The 39-year old picked up a thigh injury in training on Thursday and tests have revealed that the injury is so severe that Maldini would have to be sidelined for the remainder of the season.
Which effectively means that Maldini’s playing career is over at long last. The player himself has to affirm this himself but with the string of injuries crippling him time and again, maybe it would be good if Paolo decides to hang up his boots so that we may discern him managing Milan soon!
