The Three Lions take on Denmark in the Euro 2020 semi-final at London’s Wembley Stadium, chasing history for a nation that has made the quarter-finals seven times but never the decider.
England have enjoyed a strong Euros campaign, having not conceded one goal and winning four of their five matches, including victories over Germany and Ukraine in the knockout stage.
Southgate’s side made the 2018 World Cup semi-finals and have a wave of emerging talent, led by captain and Premier League Golden Boot winner Harry Kane.
“We are ready for the game, the players are ready, they have got tremendous experience themselves having been in this situation before,” Southgate said.
“Our preparations have been calm and we know we are playing a very good opponent. It’s going to be a really tight game and an exciting game for everybody.”
Southgate added: “We don’t have as good a football history as we like to believe sometimes.
“These players are making massive strides and breaking down barriers all the time.
“We have never been to a European Championship final so we can be the first England team to do that which is really exciting.”
The England boss has a few dilemmas with his starting XI, with Bukayo Saka expected to come back into calculations after missing out against Ukraine due to injury.
