Reigning Spanish champions and European giants Real Madrid have confirmed that their coach Bernd Schuster shall not be sacked anytime and that they still do retain faith in him.
Real Madrid lost 1-0 away at Real Valladolid on Saturday in La Liga and this led many to speculate that Schuster would be given the sack. Real had earlier lost back-to-back matches against Italian powerhouse Juventus in the UEFA Champions League and were also knocked out of the Copa del Rey by Segunda Division B side Real Union.
But Real’s sporting director Pedrag Mijatovic confirmed on Tuesday that Real Madrid shall indeed retain their faith in the man who led the club to the Spanish league triumph last season. The former Real Madrid striker said:
“My duty as athletic director is to convey an image of serenity and tranquility to our fans.This is a sport that conveys illusions. I am able to convey calm because I remember everything we have achived since we arrived.”
The club’s sporting director further said that they would certainly make some signings in January to compensate for the loss of their top striker Ruud van Nistelrooy, who has been ruled out for the rest of the season.
Mijatovic said:
“The situation forces us to come to market in winter. We know how these markets work, there are not many players who can meet the demands of Madrid.”
He continued, “This is not punch by punch - we need someone who can help us out until June and possibly beyond. We have a list of names and we will do our best to find one or two players who can help us.”
