Brentford manager Thomas Frank has revelled in his side’s promotion back to the top flight for the first time in 74 years, stating they’re the blueprint for clubs around the world.

Brentford gained promotion to the English Premier League for the first time ever with Saturday’s 2-0 victory over Swansea City at Wembley Stadium.

The Bees were in England’s fourth tier, League Two, as recently as 2008-09 but have steadily gone up the divisions with a deliberate approach.

They’ve also been hailed for their ‘Moneyball’ approach in the way they spend on their playing squad, diverting away from the modern trend of short-term big money owners splashing the cash to rise up the ranks.

“We are an example to follow for so many clubs around the world,” Frank said, having been in charge since 2018.

“I’m so pleased and proud to be part of this journey. There should be a lot of clubs out there dreaming.

“It is up to us to continue the journey next year.”

Brentford go up alongside Norwich City and Watford, who were both relegated from the Premier League last season.

The Bees offer a new dynamic in the top flight, but also another model for aspiring clubs.

Bees owner Matthew Benham took over in 2012 when the club were in the third tier, bankrolling a new stadium and their stats-based approach to recruitment.

Frank added: “I am so proud of this journey - the way we have built this club and progressed, and stayed calm after an unbelievable setback last year.

“The journey the club has been on is remarkable. Credit to Matthew Benham. If you work hard, anything is achievable.”
