Ilkay Gundogan and N’Golo Kante appear set to shake off injury concerns with both being named in the Manchester City and Chelsea squads for Saturday’s UEFA Champions League final.

Gundogan was forced off late in the season against Brighton & Hove Albion while Kante suffered a hamstring injury against Leicester City last week.

Manchester City’s German international has since declared that was precautionary and looks likely to be fit to take his place on Saturday.

Kante is a bit more of a doubt given the hamstring injury, although he has returned to training, along with Chelsea goalkeeper Edouard Mendy.

“N’Golo is looking good and I hope he stays like that for Saturday,” Tuchel said.

“Edou made a huge improvement with the management of pain from when the injury happened, which is good. We hope to have him back. If he is fit, then Edou will play.”

Meanwhile, City winger Raheem Sterling said he was expecting a physical match-up against their fellow English opponents who have beaten them in their past two encounters.

“I expect a physically demanding game,” he said. “Chelsea is a strong team who have a lot of physically strong players. I expect a really tough test.

“We have played them twice and lost twice but this is a Champions League final. On the day, things are a lot different. You go into it with a clean mindset, those games that happened against them in recent times go out the window.

“It is now about focusing on winning that trophy. The only thing that can stop us are ourselves if I am honest. It is a game where I expect a difficult test, but at the same time I expect us to pull through.”
