Fabinho, who has played in defence for much of the season due to long-term injuries to Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez and Joel Matip, is happy to see his Brazil international teammate Firmino score twice for Liverpool against Manchester United on Thursday evening.
The forward scored twice for the Reds, as Jurgen Klopp’s side got the better of United 4-2 away from home in the Premier League.
Fabinho told Liverpool’s official website about Firmino: “Oh man, I’m really happy for Bobby because he’s someone who always plays good football.
“When he can’t score, he can create space for other players or the opportunities for other players. [Against United] he was in the right place in the right moment.
“When the ball came to him, as a proper No.9, he scored two nice goals. He’s a really important player for us and the important players show themselves in important moments. I’m really happy for Bobby.”
Firmino has not been at his best this season, and there have been occasions when the 29-year-old has been dropped for Diogo Jota.
The Brazilian forward has made 30 starts and three substitute appearances in the Premier League for the Reds this season, scoring eight goals and providing six assists in the process.
Liverpool are fifth in the Premier League table at the moment with 60 points from 35 matches, four points behind fourth-placed Chelsea, who have played 36 games.
