Liverpool midfield star Javier Mascherano has decided to accept the offer to become the captain of the Argentine national football team.
This comes in the wake of a alteration in the coaching seat. Argentine legend Diego Maradona was appointed the coach of the Argentine national team last week and he immediately decided to offer his long term favourite and midfield star Javier Mascherano the role of captaincy.
Mascherano initially expressed some reservations on his capability to become the leader of what is arguably the most talented football team in the world. But Maradona spoke to him again and has managed to convince him to take up the captain’s armband.
This is what El Diego told Radio La Red:
“I’ve convinced him. I explained to him what I thought about him and told him what I thought he could give the team. He can transmit much of what he does in the centre of the pitch - we’re not asking him to be a leader immediately.”
Javier Mascherano now replaces the veteran Javier Zanetti as the captain of the Argentine national football team.
