Wilder led Sheffield United to promotion in 2018-19 and followed that up with an improbable ninth place finish in the Premier League in 2019-20 but they’ve struggled this term.
The Blades have only managed to collect 14 points from 28 games this season, with four wins, two draws and 22 defeats. They are currently 12 points adrift of safety with 10 games to play.
According to Sky Sports, the club have taken action, opting to dismiss Wilder after nearly five years in charge.
Their league position is at the heart of the issues, along with disagreements between the manager and the club on its future plans, particularly around recruitment and his role.
It’s understood Wilder held meetings with the club’s board on Friday and he’ll leave by mutual consent on Saturday, with a press conference to confirm.
United are due to play away to Leicester City in the league on Sunday.
The club cancelled Wilder’s usual pre-match press conference on Friday, citing “circumstances beyond our control”.
