Thiago Praises Liverpool Teammate Fabinho

Morning. Quarters.

Liverpool star Thiago has raved about his teammate and fellow midfielder Fabinho.

The former Barcelona central midfielder, who joined Liverpool from Bayern Munich in the summer of 2020, was pleased to play alongside Fabinho in the middle of the park during Liverpool’s Champions League game against RB Leipzig at Anfield on Wednesday evening.

Fabinho has been playing in central defence this season despite being a defensive midfielder by trade due to long-term injuries to Virgil van Dijk, Joel Matip and Joe Gomez.

However, against Leipzig in the second leg of the Champions League Round of 16 tie at Anfield on Wednesday, the Brazil international was deployed in his usual deep-lying midfield role, with Nathaniel Phillips and Ozan Kabak playing in defence.

Thiago, who has had injury problems of his own this season, was playing in a more advanced role in midfield, and the 29-year-old was delighted to be playing with Fabinho.

Liverpool won the match 2-0 to book their place in the quarter-finals of the Champions League 4-0 on aggregate.

Thiago told Liverpool’s official website when asked if he enjoyed playing in a more advanced position: “For sure, because you are always near the goal, you can create chances and you can score. So it’s a nice position as well.

“You can split it up a bit and move some lines forward, and you can be more confident and play with the strikers.

“He [Fabinho] is a great player. He gives us a lot of confidence on our backs and it’s awesome to play alongside him.”
