Michael Owen has predicted Manchester United to play out a 1-1 draw with Real Sociedad in the Europa League on Thursday evening.

Premier League giants United will take on Spanish outfit Sociedad away from home in the first leg of their Europa League Round of 32 tie.

Due to restrictions on travellers from the UK entering Spain, the game will be played at Juventus’ Allianz Stadium in Italy.

Sociedad will head into the match against United on the back of a 1-0 victory over Getafe in La Liga which followed a 4-1 win against Cadiz in the league.

La Real are fifth in the league table at the moment and will head into the match against the Red Devils high on confidence.

United prepared for their game against Sociedad by playing out a 1-1 draw with West Bromwich Albion away from home at The Hawthorns in the Premier League.

The result means that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side are now 10 points behind leaders and city rivals Manchester City in second place.

Former United striker Owen has backed United to play out a 1-1 draw with Sociedad on Thursday evening.

Owen said: “Fifth in La Liga it’s fair to say that Real Sociedad will be happy with their domestic campaign, so far. However, it could arguably have been better.

“The Spaniards got their campaign off to a flying start, but a slight dip in form saw that fade. Now having lost only one of their last six matches, they arrive here in good form.

“This will be as stiff a test as you can get at this stage of the competition for United. That said, I do think the way the game unfolds may play into their hands. United are at their best on the counter, so I expect them to score in what could turn out to be a tight match. With that in mind, I’m going for a scoring draw.”
