Liverpool are back in the goals and back in the English Premier League title race after a thrilling 3-1 win away to Tottenham on Thursday night

After four Premier League games without a goal and five league games without a win, Liverpool rose up to fourth with the triumph over Tottenham who were considered contenders earlier this season.

In an action-packed game, Roberto Firmino put the Reds ahead on the stroke of half-time before Trent Alexander-Arnold latched on to a rebound to make it 2-0 two minutes into the second 45.

Pierre-Emil Hojbjerg pulled one back for Spurs almost immediately but Sadio Mane settled the contest with a third goal in the 65th minute.

“It was good, it was good,” Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp said when asked if this was a big moment for his side.

“It was necessary as well, to be honest! It was a good moment to show up a little bit.

“We are still here, so that’s good to know. Now we go home and then we come back in a few hours to play West Ham.”

On the reasons for the change n performance and output, Klopp added: “It is always a mix and that the boys want to do well, its clear; that we as coaches have to tell them what they have to do together in specific moments is clear as well.

“I am completely happy about the performance and, yes, its about the boys. They put a proper shift in. It was a brave performance in a game against a counter-attacking monster, which they are, and that makes it even more special. For tonight, it was really good.”

The result means Liverpool are now four points behind leaders Manchester City, but have played one game more. Tottenham are sixth, four points further behind Liverpool but with a game in hand.

Harry Kane went off at half-time with injuries to both ankles, which may have significant repercussions for Spurs.

“It’s two ankles, not one, two,” Spurs boss Jose Mourinho said.

“He was coping with one, he couldn’t cope with both. Clearly, he’s a guy with good spirit, good sacrifice, so for Harry to say, no chance for the second half, we know that it’s not a simple one.”
