Gilmour was in action for Chelsea in their final Group E game against FK Krasnodar at Stamford Bridge in London.
The 19-year-old midfielder started the match and played for the entire 90 minutes, as the match ended in a 1-1 draw.
It was the teenager’s first competitive start for the Blues after his recovery from a four-month injury lay-off following knee surgery.
The former Rangers prospect did not look rusty at all, as he slotted seamlessly into the Chelsea midfield, worked hard, was very comfortable on the ball, and was always looking for ways to drive the team forward.
Gilmour took two shots of which one was on target, played three key passes, had a pass accuracy of 89.2%, won one header, took 97 touches, attempted two dribbles, made two interceptions and one clearance, and put in one cross.
Chelsea manager Lampard was impressed by the display produced by Gilmour and has raved about him.
Lampard told Chelsea’s official website about Gilmour: “I thought Billy was outstanding. The way he played today and how he trains, I see him growing with us. He’s going to be a Chelsea player so it’s just about making sure the pathway is right for him.
“He made that pathway right last season and then got injured at the wrong time but playing like he did today, he’s got a lot to offer us.”
