The Norwegian hailed the “character” and “determination” of his Manchester United players after back-to-back losses to Arsenal last weekend and Istanbul Basaksehir in midweek.
The result only moves United up the Premier League table to 14th but knocking off an Everton side who’d started the season like a house on fire and bolstered by the returns of James Rodriguez and Lucas Digne shouldn’t be underestimated.
“If we can get this determination, mindset, approach every single game, we’ll be hard to play against,” Solskjaer said, before lamenting United’s brutal recent schedule of fixtures having played in Turkey on Wednesday night.
“I can’t praise the boys enough for the character that they’ve shown. I didn’t want to do it (talk about the schedule) before the game, because I don’t want to start giving them excuses before but after, you have to have some common sense to let these boys showcase what they’re really about.
“I thought we saw that at times today but to get this product better, fixture scheduling has to be better.”
Bruno Fernandes was the star for the Red Devils with a double and an assist for Edinson Cavani’s maiden goal for United which settled the contest.
“Bruno was brilliant, top, absolutely top. Fantastic,” Solskjaer said.
“It was a great performance, of course, leading the boys. His desire and determination, he’s everywhere on the pitch.”
Elsewhere, Chelsea continued their excellent recent form, although goalkeeper Edouard Mendy conceded for the first time, as they came from behind to win 4-1 over lowly Sheffield United.
The result, courtesy of goals from Tammy Abraham, Ben Chilwell, Thiago Silva and Timo Werner, lifts the Blues up to third and means they’re unbeaten in normal time for 11 matches.
Crystal Palace eased past Leeds United 4-1 and West Ham United edged struggling Fulham 1-0, although the Cottagers fluffed a late Ademola Lookman penalty.
