World Cup winner Paul Pogba is taking legal action after press speculation that he was about to quit the French national team.

Th 27-year old Manchester United midfielder, who won the World Cup with France in 2018, is also a Muslim and credits his religion with making him a better and more positive person. He has made the haj to Mecca.

It was alleged that Pogba had made the decision not to play for France anymore, following the pledge of French President Emmanuel Macron to tackle head-on radical Islam,. Macrons comments came in the wake of the savage beheading of a French history teacher Samuel Paty, who had shared a cartoon with his class of the Prophet Mohammad during a discussion about free speech.

It was an incident that shocked not only France, but the rest of the world as well.

Macrons remarks provoked a backlash in Muslim countries. In Tripoli, the capital of Libya, the French tricolour flag was burned, whilst in Syria, demonstrators set light to pictures of Macron.

Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan has called for all Turks across Europe to boycott French goods.

It was against this background that It was claimed that Pogba had made his threat to retire from international football, but he ahs hit out angrily to deny such claims, arguing that those spreading such rumours had their won agenda, and were deliberately trying to exploit religious and racial tensions for their own ends.

He has, therefore, instructed his lawyers to begin legal action against the publishers of this fake news, and also those who have helped to spread it.

Pogba has played 72 times for France since making his full international debut in 2013, scoring 10 times for his country.

He had previously represented France in every age category from under-16 upwards.
