US President Donald Trump and his wife Melania are not the only high-profile figures to have tested positive for coronavirus in the past few days.

He is showing mild symptoms of the disease but otherwise said to be in good health. It comes just days after another Liverpool player, their summer signing from Bayern Munich, midfielder Thiago lcantara, also tested positive for the virus.

Both players are now self-isolating at home and will miss Sundays Premier League game against Aston Villa.

Man played and scored during Monday nights victory over Arsenal but is now unlikely to play for Senegal during the international break which follows this weekends fixtures.

Already his manager Jurgen Klopp is worried about the health risks posed to those of his players who have been picked for international football, especially those who have to travel outside Europe.

That is, because whilst they are in England, they are subject to strict protocols and health measures to guard against Covid-19, but the club has less control over their surroundings when they are with their national football associations.

Those concerns have been echoed by FIFPRO, the global players union, who have expressed their concerns for the 250 or so players from Europe who will be travelling back to South America to play in World Cup qualifiers. They have pointed out that several of the South American countries involved currently are some of the highest when it comes to incidences of coronavirus, and are worried about the risk, both to the players themselves, and their families.

They have said that they will fully support anybody who decides to turn down a national call-up in the circumstances, and will help defend them in the case of any subsequent disciplinary action.

FIFA has said that clubs must release players, but only if they face no travel or quarantine restrictions either in the country they are travelling to, or the one they return to afterwards.
