Fati had already begun the youngest ever player to start a Nations League match agreed 17 years and 311 days, but just four days after making his international debut against Germany as a substitute in Berlin, this was another red letter day for the young forward.
He has already become the youngest man ever to score for Barcelona, and also to net in the Champions League.
Fatis back story is an unusual one. He was born in Africa in Guinea-Bissau to a father who was an ex-footballer who left the family home in order to travel to Portugal, seeking work. Whilst there, he read a newspaper articles about the Andalusian town of Marinaleda, near Seville in Spain, which was offering jobs to immigrants.
When he got there though, there was no work available, and he was reduced to begging for craps of food on the street until he had a chance encounter with the towns mayor, who offered him a job as a driver.
With his own finances secured, Fatis father was able to send for the family, including Ansu, who was six years old at the time. He began playing football for local youth teams, until he joined the famous Barcelona academy system La Masia aged ten years old.
He signed his first professional contract with Barcelona last July, and, without having previously played for their reserve side, made his first team debut the following month.
He renounced his claims to play for Guinea-Bissau in September 2019 when he was granted Spanish citizenship and made his first under-21 appearance for his adopted country the following month.
Now he has been fast-tracked through to the senior side.
Fati is a rare example in recent months of a good news story coming out of Barcelona football club.
