The Daily Star has reported that Celtic are eyeing a move for the striker should they lose Odsonne Edouard to a club in the Premier League.
Edouard is one of the best strikers in the Scottish Premiership and has been linked with a number of clubs in the Premier League.
With Celtic getting knocked out at the Champions League Qualifying Second Round stage on Wednesday evening, there is a chance that the striker could be sold amid speculation this summer.
Awoniyi is 23 years of age and would cost Scottish Premiership giants Celtic 9 million pounds in transfer fees.
The youngster has been on the books of Liverpool since 2015, but the Nigeria Under-23 international has yet to establish himself in the first team.
The striker has had load spells at FSV Frankfurt, NEC, Royal Excel Mouscron (twice), Gent and Mainz.
