Sky Sports have reported that Hendrick has undergone a medical at Newcastle and is on the verge of joining the Premier League club on a free transfer.
The Republic of Ireland international midfielder is a free agent at the moment, having left Burnley earlier this summer.
Having undergone a medical, the 28-year-old midfielder will now reportedly complete other formalities before putting pen to paper on a three-year contract with the Magpies.
Hendrick will become Newcastles second senior signing of the summer transfer window following the recruitment of 28-year-old goalkeeper Mark Gillespie.
The midfielder started his professional club football career at Derby County, and after a successful time at the Pride Park Stadium, he moved to Burnley in 2016.
The Republic of Ireland international established himself as a key figure at the Clarets and is one of the better midfielders in the Premier League.
