Koeman Pleased With Valencia's Copa Del Rey win

Valencia have been going through one of their worst seasons in history but the defeat of Getafe in the Cope del Rey final on Wednesday certainly bleeds in rays of hope. Los Che were always in command against Michael Laudrup’s side at the Estadio Vicente Calderon and won by 3 goals to 1.

Valencia’s beleaguered coach Ronald Koeman of course was in pretty high spirits after the match and praised his players for soaking the pressure well. The Duthman himself has been under immense pressure as Valencia hover just 5 points above the relegation zone.

Koeman said after the match:

“We took advantage of our first opportunities, but the penalty complicated things, and we should have sealed it with the two chances for Villa… but Getafe were very focused and worked well.”

Koeman also added that they now need to “enjoy what has been achieved today, because it has been nine years since Valencia won it, and it is important.”

At leas Valencia are into the UEFA Cup next season. The question is whether they can play in Europe next season as a Spanish first division side or as Segunda Division club.
