The first came in the match between Leicester City and Manchester United at the King Power Stadium, in what had been billed as a winner-takes-all match to decide who qualifies for the Champions League next season.
And when Leicester defender Wes Morgan hauled down United striker Anthony Martial in the box, and the referee pointed to the spot, history was made.
The was the 14th spot kick that United had been given in the season, breaking Leicesters own record for the 2015/2016 season when they were surprise title winners, and also the feat of Crystal Palace who were awarded the same number in 2004- 2005.
No fewer than five teams have been awarded 12 penalties in a single campaign including Manchester United last season. The others are Liverpool, Chelsea, Arsenal and Blackburn Rovers.
Bruno Fernandes duly converted on Sunday to send United on their way to a two-nil victory that ensured they would finish third and play in the Champions League next season. Leicester, meanwhile, will have to be content with a place in the Europa League.
Meanwhile, at the Emirates, Arsenal defender David Luiz was setting an unwelcome record of his own. His first-half foul on former Gunners player, Danny Welbeck, in the match against Watford was the fifth penalty he had conceded this season. That is the most ever by an individual player.
In fact, that was more than ten clubs Liverpool, Manchester City, Manchester United. Wolves, Sheffield United, Brighton, Chelsea, Crystal Palace, Newcastle, and Southampton as a team had conceded all season.
It caps a disastrous first season for the Brazilian in North London, who only conceded three penalties in playing more than 200 games for Chelsea. He was also sent off twice.
On this occasion it did not matter though, Arsenal were already winning three-nil at the time, and although Watford captain Troy Deeney scored from the spot, and Welbeck pulled another goal back in the second-half, Arsenal still hung on for the win.
That was enough to condemn Watford to Championship football next season, and they have been relegated along with Norwich City and Bournemouth.
