Lloris ran towards Son following the half-time whistle and appeared to shout in his direction, provoking an angry response from the South Korean, before the pair were separated by teammates and vanished down the tunnel.
Tottenham were leading 1-0 at the time, after Michael Keane’s 24th minute own goal which decided the contest, moving Spurs back up to eighth on the Premier League table.
The incident occurred after Everton forward Richarlison fired wide of Lloris’ post and it’s understood the French goalkeeper was upset with Son’s lack of defensive work in the lead-up.
“Beautiful,” Mourinho said when asked about the incident, which was only verbal and not physical.
“It’s probably the consequence of our meetings. If you want to blame somebody for that, it’s me. I was critical of my boys because they are not, in my opinion, critical enough of themselves or each other.
“I’ve asked them to be more demanding. I’ve asked them to demand more from others. I asked them to put their colleagues and the pressure of that team spirit that you have to give everything for everybody.
“It was a situation at the end of the first half where an amazing kid that everybody loves like Sonny, a team boy, but in that situation the captain thought he had to do more for the team, you have to give a different effort than you gave.
“A couple of bad words, I’m not sure if there was a push or not, but it’s something very important for the team to grow up because for a team to grow up you need to demand from each other, you need to be strong personalities.
“I was really pleased. At half-time I told them, when you had this reaction that I had no doubts that you would stick together until the end.”
Tottenham are nine points behind fourth-placed Chelsea and seven points behind fifth-placed Manchester United as they chase a European spot.
Given the deficit, Spurs remain unlikely to qualify for the UEFA Champions League which, depending on Manchester City’s appeal on their European ban, will extend to fifth spot, while the Europa League is a possibility.
Despite that Mourinho said the incident showed the players cared and hadn’t given up on the season, despite their predicament.
“It tells me that they care,” Mourinho said.
“It tells me that they were really upset, frustrated and probably blaming each other for the last performance in the last result.”
