Leicester City star Ben Chilwell should give the Foxes more time.

The Guardian has reported that Chelsea want to sign the 23-year-old, but he should turn down their advances for at least one more campaign.

Under former Liverpool boss Brendon Rodgers, Leicester are going places. They looked like the second best team in the Premier League for a long time, certainly until Christmas, and are still well placed to bring Champions League back to the King Power.

Development

Rodgers feels that Ben Chilwell can become one of the world’s best and he certainly has all that in his locker. Along with the rest of the young, talented Foxes side, he can be part of the unit that secures the long-term legacy of the club.

The Northern Irish manager is renown for his coaching talents and he seems to have refined the mannerisms which brought him some stick at Liverpool. His stint at Celtic was extremely rewarding and Rodgers is now one of the better managers in the league.

Strong Core

Alongside James Maddison, Harvey Barnes, Ayoze Perez, Youri Tielemans and alar Sync they have a seriously strong core of young players who can all reach the top of the game.

Chelsea and Leicester are running along similar lines in the progression of their teams. The Blues recently sold their best player to a big club and are seeking to rebuild following that. Eden Hazard moved to Real Madrid, Harry Maguire went to Manchester United. Both teams had their prime stars stolen from them.

Both are trying to do it using a strong core of homegrown players, too. That is admirable, but Rodgers has got his doing better than Chelsea and Chilwell shouldn’t let history get in the way of his career.

No History?

Who is to say Frank Lampard leads a bigger club than Rodgers? Chelsea aren’t certain to be in the Champions League next season, Leicester are better placed to earn qualifications.

If Chilwell ends up playing alongside European elite next season and the Foxes finish within the top four, who is to say that he should move somewhere else? If those standards are kept high, there will always be interested sides circling around the King Power.

Patience is a virtue that the left-back needs to hold dear.
