Bergwijn made the comments ahead of Tottenham’s return to action this week.
Spurs will take on Manchester United at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in the Premier League on Friday evening.
The top flight of English football will resume this week after being suspended in the middle of March due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Jose Mourinho’s side are eighth in the Premier League table at the moment with 41 points from 29 matches.
Tottenham are seven points behind London rivals Chelsea, who are currently fourth in the standings and occupy the final Champions League spot.
Bergwijn, who joined Tottenham from Dutch club PSV Eindhoven in the January transfer window for an initial fee of 25.4 million pounds, believes that the North London outfit can end up in the top four.
The winger told Sky Sports: “It would be very bad for the club and for us (if we did not qualify for Europe).
“A club like Tottenham needs to be in Europe; in the Champions League in the first place but, if that’s not possible, (then) in the Europa League.
“We have fantastic players and we have to believe in ourselves. We have nine games left, and I think it’s possible. We have to start on Friday.”
Stats
Bergwijn has made five appearances in the Premier League for Tottenham since his move from PSV in January, according two goals in the process.
The 22-year-old Netherlands international winger has also played once in the Champions League and once in the FA Cup for Mourinho’s side.
