Giroud’s contract was set to run out at the end of next month, but Chelsea have announced on their official website that they have taken up the one-year option to extend it.
This means that the former Arsenal striker will stay at Stamford Bridge until the end of next season.
The 33-year-old moved to Chelsea from London rivals Arsenal in January 2018 for a transfer fee of 18 million pounds.
Giroud is delighted to have committed his future to the Blues and is looking forward to returning to action for Frank Lampard’s side in the not-too-distant future.
The French striker told Chelsea’s official website: “I am delighted to continue my journey and adventure at Chelsea.
“I can’t wait to get back to playing and enjoying competitive football with my team-mates.
“I’m looking forward to wearing the Chelsea shirt again, especially in front of our fans at a full Stamford Bridge, whenever it is safe to do so.
