Liverpool midfielder Pedro Chirivella’s strange career at Anfield is finally going to end.

The Echo have reported that the Spaniard will finally draw time on a seven-year Merseyside stay that has got more ups and downs than a fiddler’s elbow.

He was signed from Valencia for two million pounds and highly rated. He went through the usual rigour of joining other sides on loan for more first team football - two spells in the Netherlands showed what he was about.

Double Trouble

Go Ahead Eagles was his first port of call and the Spaniard played 17 times, before returning to the Eredivisie with Willem II for a more productive campaign.

But then Pedro Chirivella seemed to hit a wall at Liverpool and stagnate. The midfielder was forgotten about.

You have to go back to 2015/2016 to find a time when Chirivella was considered good enough to play in the Premier League. Over four years ago he played his only 45 minutes of top flight football to date, featuring against Swansea City after Europa League and FA Cup appearances.

Never Happened

Chirivella probably expected to be involved more after returning from Willem II in 2017, but all he managed to do was appear for the U23 side a whole bunch and turn down a move to Rosenborg.

That move would have almost certainly given him the first team football Chirivella needed in order to properly kick start his career, but he rejected the move to Norway in the hope of securing something else.

Arrogant?

At the time, it was thought of as a bit of an odd move. Chirivella was nowhere near Jurgen Klopp’s first team squad and so it proved as he continued to turn out for the second string - even if a loan move to Extremadura was organized, it fell through due to an administrative fault.

And so we come full circle, with Chirivella starting this campaign without much hope of first team football. Yet, when given the chance he has impressed and that’s led to some fans asking for Klopp to reward him with more minutes.

A new contract offer came, but Chirivella had decided that his journey had circled round enough and took matters into his own hands by rejecting it.
