Newcastle United midfielder Jonjo Shelvey has spoken highly of manager Steve Bruce.

The former Liverpool midfielder has praised the impact that Bruce has made on him since he was appointed as the boss of the Magpies last summer.

The former Hull City manager replaced Rafael Benitez as the Newcastle manager at the end of last season.

Jonjo Shelvey told Sky Sports: “I’ve got a lot to thank Steve for. He has been superb for me.

“He’s come in and just asked for one thing and that’s hard work. On the first day with him on tour in China, he was just spot on.

“He said, ‘As long as you work hard, that will be enough for me.’ I think everyone has bought into that.”

Shelvey has made 16 starts and one substitute appearance in the Premier League for Newcastle so far this season, scoring five goals in the process.
