The former Rangers midfielder has outlined the attributes of the 32-year-old goalkeeper, and has explained why he would take the Aberdeen star ahead of Vaclav Hladky of St Mirren.
Rae has suggested that it would not be easy for Rangers to prise away Lewis from Scottish Premiership rivals Aberdeen as he has signed a long-term contract.
Rae told The Scottish Sun: “I’m a fan of Vaclav Hladky from St Mirren and he wouldn’t cost a great deal but I’ve gone for Joe Lewis for longevity.
“Hladky has done well this season but I think Lewis has a lot more stature and presence. I know he’s signed a new long-term contract with Aberdeen but in terms of a ‘keeper to come in and improve the side he’d be my choice.”
Successful at Aberdeen
Lewis has been at Aberdeen since 2016 and has been hugely successful during his spell at the Pittodrie Stadium so far.
The former England Under-21 international goalkeeper has been the first choice between the posts for the Dons.
The 32-year-old has been runner-up with Abedeen in the Scottish Premiership twice, and has also reached the final of the Scottish Cup once and the final of the Scottish League Cup on two occasions.
League Table
The Scottish Premiership is suspended at the moment due to the coronavirus pandemic, and it remains to be seen when the season gets back underway.
Aberdeen are fourth in the league table at the moment with 45 points from 30 matches, while Rangers currently find themselves second in the standings with 67 points from 29 games.
