But he has failed to settle in La Liga and there have been talk that they want to sell him already.
And now he could be facing time inside a Serbian jail after breaking the countrys strict quarantine laws.
Jovic had already incurred the wrath of his club and the local police when he flew back to his native Serbia on March 13th, despite the fact that he was meant to be self-isolating in Spain.
But then he was caught breaking Serbias strict rules which require anybody returning from a country which a high rate of Covid-19 to self-isolate for 28 days. The 22 year old claims it was all a misunderstanding and that he believed he was allowed out once a day, in this case to visit a pharmacy.
However, his case was hardly helped after he was earlier pictured at a party at his girlfriends apartment, and now he must appear before the Serbian public prosecutor. If found guilty, he could be jailed for up to three years, although, according to legal experts, more than likely, he can expect a fine of roughly 1,200 (or the local equivalent).
Nor is Jovic the first Serbian player to fall foul of the law. Fellow international Aleksandar Projovic has been placed under three-month house arrest after being arrested for going out to dinner with 19 other people at a hotel in Belgrade, infringing the laws on social gatherings.
All were taken into custody and Projovic only released on the strict condition that he does not leave his house for the next 12 weeks. Any infringement of that condition means that he runs the risk of immediately being returned to prison.
Projovic, who has been capped 13 times for his country, plays in Saudi Arabia for Al-Ittihad, but he will not be able to return there until he has served his sentence. The player was repentant afterwards, admitting that he was in the wrong, and apologising for his actions.
