The Liverpool legend believes that Coutinho would make the current Reds team better.

Thompson has said that the attacking midfielder was terrific in his first spell at Anfield, and has stated that he would take the Brazil international - who can also operate as a winger - in a heartbeat.

The London Evening Standard quotes Thompson as saying about Coutinho: “They are probably looking at that creative midfield player. Would you take Coutinho back? I would, in a heartbeat. I think he’s a creative genius.

“You look back at his Liverpool career and he was absolutely terrific. He’s not too old and I still think he could come back.

“It probably won’t happen but it’s that creative player just off the front three that would probably just tip the balance.”

Successful Liverpool Spell

Coutinho joined Liverpool from Inter Milan in January 2013 and established himself as a key figure for the Reds in the following years.

The 27-year-old was an important player for the Reds as they came close to winning the Premier League title in the 2013-14 campaign.

The Brazilian continued to do well when Jurgen Klopp replaced Brendan Rodgers as the Liverpool manager, and he earned the move to Spanish and European giants Barcelona in January 2018 for a transfer fee of 142 million pounds.

Bayern Munich Loan Spell

Coutinho joined Bayern on loan from Barcelona in the summer transfer window.

The 27-year-old has scored eight goals and provided six assists in 22 Bundesliga matches, and has scored one goal and provided two assists in seven Champions League games so far this season.
