Gotze started his professional club football career at Dortmund and won the Bundesliga title in 2011 and 2012 before moving to German rivals Bayern Munich.

The Germany international attacking midfielder did not have the best of times at the Allianz Arena on a personal level, although he did win the league title thrice and the FIFA Club World Cup once.

The 27-year-old returned to Dortmund in 2016, but the attacking midfielder has not recaptured his old form.

Gotze is out of contract at Dortmund at the end of the season, and the German has said that he has decided that he will leave in the summer transfer window.

Gotze told Bild: “After intensive considerations, I decided to make a change in the sporting planning of my career.

“I deliberately took the necessary time for this step because it is an important step for me to set the course for the future.”

Stats

Gotze has made five starts and eight substitute appearances in the Bundesliga for Dortmund so far this season, scoring three goals in the process.

The attacking midfielder has also provided one assist in 73 minutes in the Champions League for the Bundesliga club this campaign.

Dortmund are second in the Bundesliga table at the moment with 51 points from 25 matches, four points behind leaders Bayern.
