The Reds suffered a 3-2 defeat at the hands of Spanish club Atletico at Anfield in the second leg of their Champions League Round of 16 tie.
Jurgen Klopp’s side lost the first leg of the tie 1-0 in Madrid, meaning that they were knocked out of Europe’s premier club competition 4-2 on aggregate.
Good Start
Liverpool made a positive start to the second leg on Wednesday evening, as Netherlands International midfielder Wijnaldum put them ahead with a header.
The match finished 1-0 after normal time, meaning that the tie went into extra time.
Goalkeeping Error
Roberto Firmino put Liverpool 2-0 up in the match just four minutes into the extra-time period, only for Adrian to make a mistake and allow Marcos Llorente to score for Atletico three minutes later.
Llorente made it 2-2 in injury time of the first half of extra time, and Alvaro Morata wrapped up the scoring late on.
