Everton thought they’d scored a 91st minute winner when Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s deflected strike found the back of the net and was awarded by on-field referee Chris Kavanagh.
However, VAR overruled the decision due to the positioning of Gylfi Sigurdsson who was clearly offside in front of United goalkeeper David de Gea, but arguably impacting play.
“How has that goal been disallowed for us?” Keane said.
“De Gea has gone the other way because he can see the ball and it was going towards that corner.
“Then it hit Harry Maguire and it’s gone right in the corner.
“There’s not a chance he’s getting back to save it. VAR screwed us again.”
The Premier League later issued a statement, clarifying why the goal was cancelled by the VAR.
The statement read: “In the 91st minute of Everton v Manchester United, Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s goal was disallowed following a VAR Review for an offside offence against Gylfi Sigurdsson.
“The on-field decision was to award the goal, but the VAR advised the referee that Sigurdsson was in an offside position directly in the line of vision of David de Gea and made an obvious action that impacted de Geas ability to make a save.”
Everton boss Carlo Ancelotti was sent off amid the chaos, following his protestations after the full-time whistle.
“There was no explanation. I asked for one,” Ancelotti said.
“After the game there was a misunderstanding on the pitch, he sent me off, after that I spoke with him calmly.
“For sure I didn’t disrespect him, but I can understand also at the end of the game, there is a lot of pressure and excitement, a lot of important decisions but I didn’t disrespect him.”
