Welling Phoenix star midfielder Cameron Devlin is living his life to the full in New Zealand and can’t wait to get back on the field.

Devlin joined the Nix from Sydney FC in the summer and has gone on to cement his place in the first team after Ufuk Talay handed him a chance after five games.

“I’m absolutely loving it,” said the player. “I’m playing regularly now, I got a chance mid-way through the season and I’ve done well since I came in.”

Catalyst

After the 21-year-old gained his place alongside Matti Steinmann, Wellington started winning and remained unbeaten for nine games. After a brief speed wobble, the Nix are back in good habits and have picked up six points from the last two fixtures - with three goals scored and none conceded.

They have a week off before facing Melbourne Victory next, a break that Cameron Devlin would rather not have. He continued: “We always wanna test ourselves against the best and coming from back to back wins it would have been great to keep momentum going.”

About The Unit

When you listen to the Phoenix players talk, they always mention how this is a team game which doesn’t rely on individual brilliance. Devlin is no different. He added: “It’s a team sport and were doing really well, and that’s the main thing, and were playing a great style of football that’s coming together more in games.”

Talay’s side have been guilty of putting together good performances in patchy as that full 90 minute domination has eluded them. Despite that, they’re sitting in fourth in the A-League after some excellent wins.

But Devlin believes things are about to change for the better. ‘It’s not so much in patches its more for 90 minutes and I felt like that happened again on the weekend. I am loving it on and off the pitch and I’m just so happy here.”
