Spurs got the better of Villa 3-2 away from home at Villa Park in the Premier League on Sunday.
Goals galore
The North London outfit were on the backfoot early on, as Alderweireld scored an own goal to put Dean Smith’s side in the lead.
However, the Belgium international central defender scored a superb goal in the 27th minute to draw Spurs level.
Son Heung-min made it 2-1 to Jose Mourinho’s team in the second minute of injury time when he scored the rebound from his penalty that Villa goalkeeper Pepe Reina saved.
Bjorn Engels, who conceded the penalty after bringing down Steven Bergwijn, headed home Jack Grealish’s corner on 53 minutes to restore parity for the home team.
However, the 25-year-old central defender failed to clear the ball in the fourth minute of injury time to allow Son to score his second goal of the match and secure the three points for Spurs.
Relief
Tottenham central defender Alderweireld has admitted on Twitter that he was not at his best against Villa, but he is pleased with the final result and has also thanked the travelling fans.
Not my best performance personally after a big week, but happy to help the team with a goal at the right end. Thanks to my teammates and our brilliant away support #COYS pic.twitter.com/8BxtK8YuPb
