An expectant Ulises Davila is not interesting in winning personal records as the Wellington Phoenix eye a top six finish in the A-League.

Davila, a summer import, has 12 goals this season but has said he’d rather take things one day at a time than look too far ahead and attempt to challenge Adam LeFondre for the golden boot.

On top of that, the Mexican is also scheduled some time off in March so he can head back to his country to be with his wife as she gives birth to their child.

Expecting a Big Change

He said: “I spoke with the boss he said it’s no problem to go to be with my wife, I hope everything is going well, to have my baby and it’s exciting for that.”

Being away from loved ones is never easy, but Ulises Davila has been able to thrive despite it and puts personal discomfort down as one of the sides of the job he can’t control.

“For sure, it hard always (to be away from family) but its part of the sacrifice to try and concentrate here only on football,” he added. “I know she (his wife) has support, so I just focus on football and relax.”

Improvement

Throughout his career the former Chelsea starlet has been known as more of a creator but is sitting on just three for 2019/2020. Davila credits this change with his freedom to burst forward, and the knowledge gained by simply getting minutes under his belt.

The forwarded added: “Here I have confidence. I’m close to the goal now and I have the fortune to score, its a lot of work, more experience, more opportunity. When you are older you get experience and you can chose the best moment.”

There are some big games coming up, most noticeably against Perth Glory, Melbourne City and Sydney FC. They will need the Mexican to be firing on all cylinders if they have any chance of winning, and the experienced, confident and self-assured star will be doing all he can.
