City got the better of Manchester rivals United 3-1 away from home at Old Trafford in the first leg of the EFL Cup semi-final tie.
Silva scored the opening goal of the game in the 17th minute with a brilliant strike from the edge of the penalty box.
The 25-year-old Portugal international midfielder provided the assist for Riyad Mahrez to make it 2-0 to Pep Guardiola’s team on 33 minutes.
An own goal from Andreas Pereira saw the defending Premier League champions go 3-0 up in the 38th minute.
Marcus Rashford reduced the deficit for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side in the 70th minute when he was fed through on goal by Mason Greenwood.
City midfielder Silva has taken to Twitter to revel in the win, but he has made it clear that the tie is not over yet.

Visitors City had 57% of the possession, took 15 shots of which five were on target, and earned three corners.
The second leg of the tie will be played at City’s home ground, the Etihad Stadium, on January 29.
