Villa have announced the deal on their official website, with manager Dean Smith saying that the 29-year-old England international will “strengthen” the squad.
Drinkwater, who won the Premier League title with Leicester City in the 2015-16 season, was on loan at Burnley for the first half of the season, but he struggled with injury problems and was able to make just one appearance in the Premier League.
Chelsea Spell
Drinkwater joined Chelsea from Premier League rivals Leicester in the summer of 2017 for 35 million pounds.
The former Manchester United prospect has failed to make at impact Chelsea, and made five starts and seven substitute appearances in the Premier League for the Blue during the 2017-18 campaign, scoring one goal in the process.
The England international also played just 41 minutes in the Champions League for the London club in 2017-18 and was sent out on loan to Burnley in the summer of 2019.
Last season, Drinkwater did not make a single appearance in the Premier League.
Aston Villa Struggles
Villa are struggling in the Premier League at the moment and are in danger of getting relegated to the Championship at the end of the season.
The Villans are currently 17th in the league table with 21 points from 21 matches, just a point above the relegation zone.
