Swedish veteran Zlatan Ibrahimovic has been named in the AC Milan squad for an emotional return with his former club against Sampdoria in Serie A on Monday.

The 38-year-old striker joined AC Milan on a six-month deal just after Christmas, having left US club Los Angeles Galaxy after two impressive years in the MLS.

Ibrahimovic previously spent two seasons with the Rossoneri from 2010 to 2012, winning the 2010-11 Serie A title and the Supercoppa Italiana.

AC Milan boss Stefano Pioli said ex-Inter Milan, Juventus and FC Barcelona forward Ibrahimovic had impressed in training and was in contention to play.

“He’s presented himself well in terms of both his comments and attitude,” the Italian boss said.

“He’s demonstrated real passion, desire and determination right away. He’s a fantastic professional and even today he was the last to leave Milanello.

“It’s great to have him here and Im really pleased with him. He’s attentive and curious - he’s finding his space but it’ll take time.

“He’s changed the environment and it’ll be a boost for everyone. He’s not just any player, however, he’s value-added rather than our saviour.

“He’s been called up and he’s doing well, even if he only played his last official game over two months ago. However, he’s available and can play.”

Milan are currently 12th on the Serie A table with 21 points from 12 matches.
