In the end Inter Milan did manage to secure their 4 point lead at the top of the table in the Italian Serie A by beating Fiorentina but there has been reports of more squad trouble and friction emanating from the blue and black half of Milan.
Inter coach Roberto Mancini took off midfielder Dejan Stankovic in the 89th minute against the viola and brought on the 30-something Luis Figo. This time the former Portuguese international did come on but he was reported in a state of resentment for playing a one-minute part for Inter against Fiorentina.
Coach Mancini of course chose to downplay the incident by remarking:
“One can be useful even if only for three minutes.”
Figo is a huge favourite of the Inter Milan prsident Massimo Moratti who is keen to extend the former FC Barcelona and Real Madrid player’s contract at the club by one more year.
He said last night:
“I hope that he remains at Inter for one more year as a player.
“It would be a pleasure, otherwise I would like to enter him into the club in another role.”
Another role? Well, not a coaching role surely!
