Argentina has devastating news. Goalkeeper Sergio Romero is out of the 2018 World Cup due to a knee injury.

With Romero out, Argentina looks to Franco Armani of River Plate and Willy Caballero of Chelsea as their reserve goalkeepers. Meanwhile, Nahuel Guzman of the Tigres has been called in as Romero’s replacement.

Romero, 31, plays with Manchester United, and has won 94 caps for Argentina. He was also a player for Argentina’s national team that participated in the 2014 World Cup. Unfortunately, as we all know, their bid for the Cup was lost after being defeated by Germany.

According to Argentina’s Football Association, Romero will undergo surgery on his right knee due to injury.

The association’s website read: “Argentina goalkeeper Sergio Romero will be removed from the list of 23 players who will participate in the 2018 World Cup in Russia.

“The player of Manchester United today suffered a joint blockage in his right knee which requires surgery.”

The team has now named their final 23-man squad. Surprisingly, Mauro Icardi was omitted.
