England’s new team captain, Harry Kane says that his team will be able to win the World Cup that will be held in Russia. He said that anything else simply is not good enough.
Playing in Striker position, Kane, aged 24, was just informed about his new position by Gareth Southgate, manager, a few weeks ago. It was just officially confirmed this Tuesday.
According to Kane, it is “impossible not to dream about lifting the World Cup. It’s the biggest competition in the world.
“I believe we can win it - anyone can. I cannot sit here and say we are not going to win it because we could do.
Kane said that it is already his mindset, and he is determined to win at everything that he does. The players in the England team want it badly as well. They feel that it is indeed worth fighting for, as most of them have had dreams of lifting the World Cup, and this is their opportunity now.
Kante is aware that they are not the favorites to win the cup; however, the recent performances of teams at the Champions League and the Premier League have set his hopes up. This season itself, Kane was able to score 41 goals in all the competitions and Tottenham was able to finish third within the Premier League.
England is set to head over to Russia on the 12th of June and go against Tunisia for their first greeting game on June 18. After which, they will go against Belgium and Panama.
When being asked about his youth, Kane said, “being young is not an excuse - it could be a good thing. I believe we can and that is what we want to try and do. Anything else is not good enough.”
According to Southgate, Kane “has belief and high standards and it is a great message for the team to have a captain who has shown that it is possible to be one of the best in the world over a consistent period of time and that has been his drive.”
