Chelsea v Liverpool live & preview EPL 2016-17

The Stamford Bridge this weekend is set to witness an epic showdown between Chelsea and Liverpool. The two teams will be competing in the match day five of the Premier League on Friday evening.

Chelsea’s form so far this season has been a terrific one, thanks to their new manager Antonio Conte. Under his regime, the Blues have displayed some quality football and are maintaining a consistency to their side which wasn’t seen in his predecessors’ times.

Following three back to back wins, it was the game against Swansea City last weekend which brought their campaign to an abrupt halt. Chelsea had to fight Swansea to a 2-2 draw in order to salvage the point. The match also brought some other disappointing news, mainly in the form of ankle injury which John Terry sustained. Seeing that he has been ruled out of the game for 10 days, Conte may have to rely on David Luiz to lead the defense.

Nonetheless, Conte has reasons to be happy as well, given that Diego Costa is in a remarkable form. Having scored four goals and an assist already to his name, the Spaniard is set to amaze in the coming weeks.

As for Liverpool, they are at the sixth place in the league table, courtesy of two wins and a draw and defeat each. Following their 2-0 defeat to Burnley a few weeks back, they have done well to recover from it. They held Tottenham Hotspur to a 1-1 draw, which they followed with a 4-1 win against the reigning champions Leicester City.

Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino have been the key performers for the Reds so far, having scored a couple of goals each.

Jurgen Klopp’s skillful tactics are something which are known to stun event the greatest of the teams. When a manager of this mentality takes on the likes of Conte, the end result is bound to be thrilling. But Chelsea have got the stats on their side, given that they haven’t lost to Liverpool in 10 of their previous 11 meetings. Moreover, Chelsea are unbeaten at home in 12 out of their previous 13 League matches.

This is surely going to be a high octane match with Chelsea being the favorites.
