On Sunday March 13, Las Palmas UD hosts Real Madrid CF in week 29 of the Spanish Primera Liga season. The game will be played at the Estadio de Gran Canaria in the city of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and will kick off at 19:30 BST.
The hosts are currently 15th on the league table with 30 points from 28 matches, while the visitors are in 3rd position with 60 points from 28 games.
A win for the underdogs can see them end the matchday in 14th, while a defeat could see them finish the weekend in 16th place. The favorites will retain their position on the league table regardless of the outcome of this fixture.
Las Palmas hoping for safetyThe newly promoted side have done well to stay out of the relegation zone all season, and will be looking to rack up as many points as quickly as possible to secure their position among the elite next season.
Los Amarillos, managed by Quique Setin are in good form, with three wins and two defeats in their last five games in the league. Their victories were in consecutive games against Eibar (0-1 on February 26), Getafe (4-0 on March 1), and Villarreal (0-1 on March 5).
The newly promoted side lost recent games to Sevilla (2-0 on February 14), and Barcelona (1-2 on February 20).
Real Madrid faded title hopesThe title challengers currently 12 points behind leaders Barcelona, and will know that it will take a miracle to make up that gap in the remaining 10 games. They will be hoping to secure qualification for next year’s UEFA Champions League as early as possible, so they can concentrate on winning the tournament this year.
Los Blancos, managed by Zinedane Zidane are in good form, with three wins, one draw and one defeat in their last five games in all competitions. These wins include league wins against Levante (1-3 on March 2), and Celta Vigo (7-1 on March 5). They also defeated Roma in the Champions League (2-0 on March 8).
The Champions League quarter finalists drew their recent game against Malaga (1-1 on February 21), but suffered defeat at the hands of city rivals Athletico Madrid (0-1 on February 27).
Las Palmas will need goalkeeper Javi Varas to be on his very best form in this game if his team is to get a positive result against one of the more feared teams in the division. Cristiano Ronaldo comes into this game in red hot form, with five goals in his last two games. The Portuguese forward is in contention for the Spanish golden boot, and will be looking to aid his cause with a couple of goals in this game.
Las Palmas have been decent enough this season, but come up against a Real Madrid team with quality all over the pitch. I expect the visitors to win this game comfortably.
