On Sunday, March 6, SD Eibar hosts FC Barcelona in a Spanish Primera Division week 28 fixture. The game will be played at the Estadio Municipal de Ipurua in the city of Eibar and will kick off at 15:00 BST.
The home side is currently 8th on the league table with 36 points from 27 games, while the visitors are top of the league, with 66 points from 27 games.
Eibar cannot be upwardly mobile, even with a victory in this game, but can slump to 10th place if they suffer defeat. The league leaders will retain their position on the table regardless of the outcome of this fixture.
Eibar overachievingEibar are doing much better than was predicted at the start of the season, and currently sit just outside the European places. They will need to arrest their current terrible run of form if they are to achieve such lofty ambitions.
The Armeros, managed by Mendiliar are in dismal form, with one win and four draws in their last five games. This single win was against Levante (2-0 on February 14).
The underdogs have lost four of their five league games, a run which includes defeats against Athletico Madrid (3-1 on February 6), Celta de Vigo (3-2 on February 20), Las Palmas (0-1 on February 26), and Sevilla (1-0 on March 2).
Barcelona unstoppableThe league leaders seem intent on breaking all previous winning records this season. The Catalans are on a 35 match unbeaten run and have just recently broken Real Madrid’s long term standing record of unbeaten games for a Spanish club.
The treble winners, managed by Luis Enrique are in impeccable form, winning all of their last five games in all competitions. These wins were in league games against Sporting Gijon (1-3 on February 17), Las Palmas (1-2 on February 20), Sevilla (2-1 on February 28), and Rayo Vallecano (1-5 on March 3). They also defeated Arsenal in the Champions league (0-2 on February 23).
Spanish born Borja Baston has been in outstanding form for the whole of this season, and leads Eibar’s scoring charts with 16 league goals. His team will need him to be on his best form if they are to get anything from this game. Luis Suarez is the top marksman in the league this season with 25 goals to his name and will be looking to improve his already impressive haul by finding the back of the net in this game.
Barcelona are unstoppable at the moment and I cant look beyond them for this game. The Catalans to win this game by a comfortable score line.
