Being a fan of Aston Villa has been a dismal experience. Whether it is watching dull mediocre players play a dull mediocre brand of football, watching managers come and go, or the complete mismanagement of the club. There is so much to feel pessimistic about. Randy Lerner appears to have given up on the club, and will wait in his high tower until the clubs value is back to where he wants to sell.
For us fans leaving is never an option. People will be talking about staving off relegation, but I think relegation is the right thing for the club for three reasons:
We deserve it. We are hands down the worst team in the league, and there are not three teams worse than us, which is usually the way to judge it.
We need a clean slate. Villa have been screaming for someone to hit the re-start button and it can work. Newcastle Southampton have all come bach looking like much more settled sides.
We can get rid of deadwood. Players are on too much money and nothing is coming back for the investment. I think our core are built for the championship and with those likely to leave if we go down, will we really miss them?
