Atlético Madrid welcome Real Madrid to Estadio Vicente Calderón in Madrid in game seven of the new season in the Spanish Primera Division. The game kicks off at 20:30 hours CEST on Sunday, October 04, 2015 and is the pick of the week’s matches in La Liga.
The hosts are currently in the fifth position in the La Liga table with 12 points from their six games while their cross-town rivals are third in the league standings with 14 points from their six matches so far.
Atlético Madrid have started reasonably well with four wins out of their six matches. Defeat to table toppers Villarreal this past week have pegged them back a bit but three wins out of four before that meant that they are in the mix at the top end of the table.
Their wins have been against Getafe, Eibar and Sevilla while the defeat came at the hands of defending champions Barcelona.
Real Madrid meanwhile are on an unbeaten streak with four wins and two draws in their first six fixtures. They were held at home by Malaga 0-0 this past week which was a disappointing result as far as Madrid was concerned.
But wins over Bilbao, Granada, Espanyol and Betis prior to that have earned them the points that they need to remain in the top three. Add to it the midweek Champions League result and they are a team on a high at the moment.
Christiano Ronaldo notched up 500 goals for club and country this past week and will look to add to that tally and so will the likes of Karim Benzema, Isco and Jesé who have all looked good in the recent games. Atlético on the other hand will have to pull up their performances as manager Simeone will look for a much improved performance from the likes of Griezmann, Martinez, Correa and Tiago.
Real go in as marginal favourites, but no result can be ruled out in a Madrid derby with Atlético Madrid coming out stronger in the recent encounters.
