Oliver Askew
Oliver Clark Askew has a Swedish nationality but races under an American license. He is the current Indy Lights champion. His last competition in the IndyCar Series was for Arrow McLaren SP.
Early Career
Oliver Askew’s start at racing was at the age of 8 when he began karting. In 2016, Askew’s life changed when he was selected as a recipient of the Team USA Scholarship. Through this, Askew was able to race in the Formula Ford Festival as well as the Walter Hayes Trophy. Oliver won second in the Walter Hayes Trophy and won in the 2016 Mazda Road to Indy Shootout in the same year.
USF2000
Through Oliver’s victory in the 2016 Mazda Road to Indy Shootout, Askew was able to compete in the 2017 USF2000 which he ended up winning. His USF2000 victory gained him entry into the Pro Mazda series a year later. It was also this year that Askey joined the Rising Star Racing program to help young open-wheel drivers in America advance in their racing careers.
Pro-Mazda
In 2018, Askew competed in the Pro Mazda series after signing with Cape Motorsports. He scored his first victory in the series at Race 1 in Portland. He finished the season Pro Mazda Championship in third place.
Indy Lights
Askew won the Indy Lights championship in 2019. As a result, he was awarded a scholarship that guaranteed his entry into three races in the 2020 IndyCar Series.
IndyCar
In October 2019, it was announced by Arrow McLaren SP that Askew would be racing for their team full time in the year 2020. However, Askew had a hard crash in the Indianapolis 500 giving him concussion-like symptoms and eventually being withdrawn from the race. He was only cleared to return at the season finale, but AMSP dropped Askew without giving him a reason. However, Askew was able to redeem himself, returning to IndyCar again with AMSP at the Detroit Grand Prix.
Sports Car Career
It was in January 2021 when Askew debuted for the 24 Hours of Daytona under Riley Motorsports, marking his debut into sports car racing. Askew won the race in the LMP3 class.
