Max Chilton
Max Chilton is a British car racing driver who is currently competing for Carlin Motorsport and part of the IndyCar Series. Before he raced in the IndyCar Series, he also competed in Formula One and the GP2 series. He also has a brother named Tom Chilton who is a race car driver competing in the British Touring Car Championship.
Karting
Chilton’s racing career began at the young age of 10 when he competed in karts. He spent 2 years learning and racing in cadet karting before finally moving up to junior TKM. He did a good job, even making a name for himself with J.I.C.A where he makes regular appearances on the podium. Before he turned to car racing at 14 years old, he was racing in the Super 1 National Kart Championships.
T Cars
In 2005, Chilton raced in the T Cars Championship at the 14- to 17-year-old category. In his first season, he finished 8th. He eventually finished 3rd to gain the Autumn Trophy in this race car series. He continued with T Cars the following year, finishing as runner-up behind Luciano Bacheta with only a 3-point difference.
Formula Three
A year later in 2007, Chilton made his debut at the 2007 British Formula 3 Season, racing for Arena International. He was granted special dispensation because he was below 16 years old, the required age to play in the season opener. In Formula Three, his best finish was in 2008 when he scored two podiums. He was second at the opening race in Oulton Park and third place at Rockingham. In 2009, he won twice, one at the Autodromo Internacional do Algarve and one at Brands Hatch.
GP2 Series
Chilton joined the GP2 series for the 2009-2010 season. He drove for Barwa Addax at first then later moved to the Ocean Racing Technology racing team, winning the fifth place at the 2010 GP2 Series season championship. He again transferred teams, this time to his father’s team, Carlin. He finished his GP2 series in fourth place at the driver’s championship due to his performance.
Formula One
Chilton played for two racing teams while competing in Formula One. First was with Force India in 2011 and then Marussia from 201-2014. While in Formula One, Chilton became the only driver who finished all the races in his rookie season.
IndyCar
Chilton began competing in the IndyCar series in 2015 starting with Indy Lights. His race win at the Indy Lights was dedicated to Jules Bianchi. From 2017 onwards, Chilton joined the Carlin team, playing a crucial role in helping the single-seater experts of Carlin to play in their debut season.
