John Randal Hildebrand Jr. is from Sausalito, California. As a race car driver, he has made waves in go-kart races and different racing series now that he has turned professional. He is more commonly known as JR Hildebrand. He has competed in the Atlantics and Indy Lights Series, American Le Mans Series, and Formula One Series. He is currently competing in the IndyCar Series.

Early Career

Hildebrand’s racing career started as early as 14 years old when he raced go-karts. He won his first race and also became champion in the same year. In 2003, he raced in the Jr. 80cc Shifter class finishing close to second. Then he transitioned from go-karts to cars by the end of the year after winning the Jim Russell Graduate Runoffs. He raced in the Formula Russell in 2004 and also went to win the series championship. He moved to the Pacific F2000 in the year 2005 and finished second overall as well as rookie of the year award. In the same year, he was chosen for the Team USA Scholarship which earned him entry to the Formula Palmer Audi Autumn Trophy where he finished in third place. In 2006, he won the championship of the U.S. F2000 National Championship with 12 out of 14 races.

IndyCar Series

Before the IndyCar series, Hildebrand also raced in the Atlantics and Indy Lights, American Le Mans Series, and Formula One. He had several season bests while in the Indy Lights series, including winning his first series victory at the Kansas Speedway. He also claimed the title at the Chicagoland Speedway after winning 4 races and 5 pole positions.

Hildebrand debuted in the IndyCar series in 2010 as part of Dreyer & Reinbold Racing. In 2011, Hildebrand became the most successful rookie during his premier race at the Indianapolis 500, finishing second place despite damage to his car and the loss of a wheel.

In the year 2014, Hildebrand joined Ed Carpenter Racing and finished second place in Iowa and third place in Phoenix. In 2018, Hildebrand was signed once again by Dreyer & Reinbold Racing to pilot their car in the Indy 500. He finished 11th place in that year and 20th place in 2019. He raced again in the same role and finished in 16th place. During his IndyCar Series career, Hildebrand has had 0 wins, 3 podiums, and 0 poles.
